The reason the first season was awful was because it was just trying to be the UK office. Same awkwardness, same jokes, same character roles etc... It was almost word for word the same in parts and it just didn’t work. Then from season 2 onwards they treated it like it’s own standalone show and it became one of the greatest TV shows of all time. Give it a chance. Trust this random stranger on the internet, you won’t regret it.
